Ayurveda stands for knowledge of Life

The Ayurveda derives from RigVeda & Atharva Veda . Ayurveda is an Upaveda of Atharva or Rigveda . According to Vedic scripts ,The word 'Ayurveda' comes from the Sanskrit word 'ayur' , combination of 4 parts called ( body ,Senses ,Mind ,Soul ) as 'life or Ayur (Sarera, indriayalu, Manassu, Athma ). ' Veda' meaning ' to know' Or Cosmic knowledge . Ayurveda means 'The Science of life' .

Then this knowledge passed one by one to Indra, Bharadwaja, Aathriya  and Aginivesya maharshis .Now these are available with  Disciple names  . Ayurveda having  8 parts.        

1) Kaaya chikistha                    ( Treatment of Diseases by Oral and External Medicine )
2) Baala chikistha                      ( Pediatrics)
3) Graha chikistha                      (Demonical Treatment or Psychiatry )
4) Urdvaanga chikishtha            (Treatment of the head ,Neck,, Otto Rhino-Laryngiology and Ophthalmology )              
5) Śalyacikitsa                            ( Surgery )
6) Visha chikistha                       ( Toxicology )
7) Jara Or Rasayana chikistha   ( Treatment of relating to complete Rejuvenation with extended Longevity  )                                                                                                            8) Vaagikarana Chikistha           ( Aphrodisiacs )
